Teacher is someone who supposed to know and care what is she/he talking about. When we think about teachers what is the first word that comes to our mind? Mentor? Leader? Inspiration? Example? Or maybe we think about It n a totally different way? It's easy to think back in to time when we were at school. This is the most powerful memories from our young age because many stories are attached into it. I've never thought one day I might be a part of so called teachers community. Actually I was very fortunate to become one of them. So now here I am:) After 8 years of working hard to share my knowledge I started to realize how important teacher's role is.
As a cultural activity promoter I met hundreds of teachers from around the world. People from Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, USA, France, Netherlands, UK and more. Most of them are great individuals with extraordinary stories behind. Having opportunity to watch how they work and interact with students was the best lesson for myself. Lesson of patience, comparison and drawing conclusions about myself. I was observing teaching techniques and methods.
It wasn't different from my previous experience of teaching. But there are some small details about being a teacher for somebody else and I focused on these details. Actually there were many small details. I was just wondering should I compress them into one big piece or name every single one giving You a big picture of understanding the point of view. My decision was: make it easy, plain and on point in it's simplicity.
After making some notes I come to the conclusion which is the most important element of my future vision of being an example for other people. So my Golden Rule as well as what define a good teacher is:
AS A TEACHER YOU SHOULD TRY TO PASS THE INFORMATION IN A VERY SMART WAY. DOESN'T MATTER WHAT IS THE SUBJECT OR PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE YOU WANT TO SPREAD.
FIRST AND FOREMOST AS A TEACHER WE SHOULD INSPIRE PEOPLE BUT NOT IN A TYPICAL WAY BY JUST SPREADING THE WORD. PEOPLE CAN GET KNOWLEDGE FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES NOWADAYS BUT ONE THING THEY CAN'T GET IS TRUE AND HONEST STORY FROM A PRIVATE EXPERIENCES BACKGROUND.
AND THIS IS THE KEY: HONEST AND REAL STORIES ARE MOST DESIRABLE BY PEOPLE. THEY WANT TRUTH PLUS KNOWLEDGE.
This is the key to a successful story of being great teacher. People want some realness and raw, uncut stories from the source. Not a boring lecture which we can experience daily.
We been told teachers should be treated almost like a public person. So their privateness is where students not always have access - not true. They are source of education so they must be clean as an eye drop. Without any distractions must be ready for giving education so it's a 24/7 role. Sometimes they don't treat student very well because of their status. And this is a sign they might be burned in education profession. If You see symptoms like this....run!:)
I know some of these teachers - they know it's time to quit but they have no choice. Work for money is a fundamental element of western economy model. Also it's an unwritten law of obey.
So for all parents out there. Talk with the teachers and try to conclude is this the right man on the right place or even is this man treat it like a job or do it on some greater purpose rather than only for the money. Simple as this. After this short chat You can have all what You want.
For all the teachers: If You think your job is a pain in the ass for You, change it. If teaching others and knowledge sharing is not a fun anymore - Change it! And last but not least - if You think teaching ability is something extraordinary and You are the alpha and omega of the world - Change it or quit definitely!
